You guys know everything!

Hello everyone:

After years of encouragement by my 1974-911-owning-brother-in-law (azasadny), I just bought my 1st Porsche (1984 944) and NOW I get it. These cars are a blast!

This is the first car that I will actually "try" to work on myself and I am glad this forum exists because I am going to need a lot of help.

A special thanks to Tab Tanner at Autobahn Garage, he was the one that found the car for us on Pelican. I was going to buy a Miata, but Art and Tab did an intervention and I am glad they did.

Welcome to the fold! Your BIL is a good guy, you should go give him a holler in the off topics forum.

Yes he is. But prerry soon my wife is going to stop letting me hang out with him. Last weekend we went down to Findlay to spend some time with Tab Tanner (another good guy) and within the next 24 hours I had done the following:
-Gone to a gun show with Art at the local "redneck petting zoo"
-Been turned on to reloading
-Shot a bunch of .222, .308, .380, 30/30, and 9mm
-bought a new rifle
-oh yeah...and bought a Porsche

Come to think of it....THAT was a good 24 hours.

Reloading is a lot of fun. I reload 308 for my 700P. Did you mean .223 instead of .222?

What kind of rifle did you buy?

Opps, good catch. Yes it was .223 (being spit out of a couple of AR-15), but hey whats a .001 among friends.

It was actually a cheap little gun. A New England Firearms Handi-Gun in stainless. It came with two barrels .223 and .410 gauge. I am looking forward to shooting it. I would guess as a break action single shot it would be fairly accurate.

My first ever shotgun was a New England Firearms "Pardner" break-barrel .410 that my uncle gave me when I was around 13, great little gun.

Dave is my BIL and he's deserving of the "Porsche experience"! Dave is having a great time getting familiar with the car and on Friday, we're driving it down to Tab Tanner's shop (Autobahn Garage in Findlay, OH) to replace the motor mounts and belts. Tab is a great guy, I don't know where we would be without him! He even came over to my house last Saturday to get me started in reloading my own ammo. I'll be reloading .223 for my AR15, .45ACP, 9mm and .380 for various Sig pistols and .380 for my BIL's AR10. Another expensive hobby, that's what I really needed!!!

We spent Friday at Tab Tanner's shop in Findlay, OH and went over Dave's recently purchased '84 944 and Tab replaced the motor mounts (the old one had collapsed), replaced the balancing and serpentine (timing) belts and a few pulleys and replaced an intake manifold gasket that was causing unmetered air to enter the combustion chamber. After taking care of all this, the car idled and ran noticeably better and was smooth and powerful on the 75 mile drive home. We had a good chance to look the car over and Tab determined that the starter is going bad, so Dave will order one (from our host) and replace that ASAP. With Tab's help, Dave purchased a nice, clean 944 and was able to come in under budget so that even with the repair/replacement costs, Dave is well under his spending limit. His car will be thoroughly detailed next spring and we'll get it as nice and shiny as we possibly can. This is the 1st 944 I've ever driven or been in and I'm impressed!
