Question 944 n/a, Caliper Rebuild Kit

Hi everyone. I need some assistance again if possible.

I have a 1986 944 and have a leaking caliper where it meets the shoe. I can visually see that the rubber is damaged and I cannot hold any pressure while hitting the brake. I bought 2 new caliper rebuild kits and was unable to find a reliable source on replacing them. As to all porsche things, there is nothing that is just simple. Always has a twist. I was wondering if anyone could help or show me a site to fix this. Or is it simple? Thanks!

robert

The kit did not come with instructions? Also, it is simple... Take it apart and rebuild in reverse order. Haynes manual also has instructions. So I would recommend using the Haynes manual at least, with the book it is easy to do. The only tricky part is that the piston has to go back in the same way, since it has a raised section on the part that touches the pad (applies equal pressure to the pad, so if not replaced in the same orientation you may get vibration when braking). Again, what kit did you get, and did it have no instructions? I bought the ATE rebuild kit from Pelican and it came with detailed instructions (no pictures, so the Haynes was nice to have too). Let me know if this helps at all of if you need more info.

Quite a relaxing little project, these. The potential pitfall is the piston getting stuck in the bore when you try to remove it. Some use compressed air to get it out if it sticks. I just worked it round as I pulled.

I bought an ATE rebuild on ebay. It came with instructions but like you said no pics and somewhat confusing. I do have a haynes. I didnt even look at that cause I figured it wouldnt have rebuild kit part, just take off and install.

thanks everyone. im gonna get ready to do this.

Good to see you again John. thanks for the info also.
