No start, but on Starting Fluid!

Well, I think this will be the last time i will try to figure out what is wrong with my car, then I am going to get rid of it. This electrical problem has cost me a few bucks and still at a loss! I am in need of some more suggestions for the car. I can not get it ti start, but turns over real strong, have great fuel pressure at the rail. I can spray starting fluid in the filter and it will start and run after that. Just getting the initial start is being a pain.
New parts within the last year:
Referance and position sensor
alternator and battery and ground cables
new msd coil, wires, cap, rotor and plugs

Need help, everything has check good from my book and clarks, but at a loss!!!!!

Is there another sensor? Computer bad? Thanks Mike

doesnt matter if the injectors are new or good used, what you need to know is if all are firing while cranking. Pull the rail up, crank w a towel under the rail and have someone verify you are getting fuel from each while cranking

I will check that tonight. What would the next step be, if the injectors are not firing? Mike

if you pulled the rail and no spray while cranking, assuming you have fuel pressure which you say you do, then the injectors are not firing while cranking.

I would check ignition switch, and voltage to the dme while cranking, you may have a voltage drop while cranking.
I have a new ignition switch, unused for $40 shipped if you need it, or a used one for $25 shipped.

if engine timing is off it may cause slow cranking and even excessive draw while cranking, you can pull all sparkplugs and crank, then check if injectors fire while cranking, if they do recheck timing.

super longshot is haywire alarm module

Wanted to update. One of the guys also told me to remove the black cover off the AFM and have someone crank the car over and to play with the arm. Well sure enough, the car started up. Tried to adjust it, it was running rough, now can't get the car to start up. I think it just finally went out. not 100% sure yet. Mike

Wouldnīt that be a reason to change the AFM with a known good just to test? You may have dead spots in that potentiometer track or the arm not making contact inside that AFM.
Also, do you have that 9-pole wire connector just above the brake booster in your 1986? If so, do pull the connector halves apart and have a look. Are the male and female contacts shining or dulled by corrosion/oxide? If so again, rub them with fine sandpaper (make small rolls around a small screwdriver to make a tube with sanding surface inwards that fit over male contacts) The female contacts could be treated same way by small rolls of sand paper,
sanding surface pointing outwards. Blow and spray with WD-40 and/or apply dielectric grease on alll contacts before putting wire connector halves together again. These damn wires are so important and vital for the function of DME, injectors etc so they mustnīt be neglected in that particular connector. My 50 oere. Good luck, donīt give up!

Was the car run fine , or start fine prior to new msd blaster coil? If not, you might
need a ballast resistor. Alot of after market coils do not work like OEM ignition
coil.

When I installed Jacobs high enegy coil on my 1983 944, the engine did not
start without ballast resistor. Even the engine started and run the performance
was not as better as oem coil.
You can check the ignition switch by turning the key into the ignition switch to crank , but not to start the engine, if the lights go out while doing this
the ignition switch is bad.

Wanted to give an update about the car that almost got parted out! Well found a combo of problems, first the AFM was no good, had to get another, that was one of the big issues, then the second issuewas that I had bad ref and speed sensort. But here is where I messed up. THey guy before me had the harness destroyed! I had to hard wire the connectors into the harness. Each connector has 3 pins, black wire, yellow wire and the third is for the ground around the cables. I did not know the correct way to hook the wires up, due to it not working 100% before, so I hooked them up color to color. Well the Forward sensor, I think is the speed? Well that set of wires is crossed! I took the chance, switched them out, and works fine now, except the starter is going out! Cant win for loosing! Mike
