hydraulic lifters on 87 924 S?

yea u can try to seafoam it...but if a lifter is dead or on its way to dying, nothing's going to bring it back to its original shape. even if seafoam works, it will just be a temporary fix. but $5 temporary fix is defintely still more bang for buck than taking the head off and getting new lifters.

What weight oil are you using? These cars need a heavy oil. Lots of people run 20W50 in the summer. I mistakenly ran 10W30 in mine for a while, switched to a heavier oil and noticed a lot of noise up top went away.

You can also try the old ATF trick (dump in a quart or so and run it for a while). The high detergent / low foaming properties of ATF can work wonders. I have left it in my car for well over 500 miles with no ill effect just remember you are thinning the oil a bit so use common sense here. |
