oil additives - zddp

I'm looking for a readily available additive to get the zinc/zddp up for my winter (Canadian winter) weight oil

Question - is anyone here using or have opinions on ZddPlus? (hard to get from where I am); GM EOS? (a bit inconvenient but not that hard to get); or Lucas Oil TB Zinc? (easy to find)

Sorry, I don't have experience with the two products you mention. However, I heard of these folks through the Hagerty Insurance magazine and run this stuff in my 924.

http://www.cam-shield.com/index.html

Don't have a lot of experience with it but it is fairly inexpensive and readily available.

No affiliation..., etc...

don't they sell it here? they are usually pretty good about having all the cool stuff

if not, i know that rs barn sells ZDDPlus - they started doing it ever since mobil 1 changed their formula

The oil guy stuff is interesting. I read the Lucas Oil Stabilizer "test" he did.

The Lucas Oil TB Zinc worries me a bit, because their marketing blurb says it contains some of their "stabilizer" additives as well, and I don't really want any of that stuff in my car.

I did some more Internet searching and found Redline has a ZDDP additive now, and the pricing seems quite good. Redline stuff is sold at a lot of places in Toronto so I'll probably go with them.

I would go with an oil that comes with the correct levels of ZDDP, like the Brad Penn ^^^.

Adding stuff to oil can be kind of complicated, since oil is formulated with some additives to stabilize others, and to counteract the chemistry that results when stuff like zddp breaks down over the life of the oil. Search for "the ultimate oil thread" and somewhere in the depths of it, this point is brought up a couple times.

here it is.

If everything that you guys can get easily in the States was as easy to get in Canada...

But, I found this thread from the beginning of the year about there being a Brad Penn distributor in the Toronto area

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/canada/398063-brad-penn-update.html#post3825945

and some local NAPAs carrying it

so assuming local supply is good, Brad Penn it is

zddp

check out www.camoils. They make a 15W40 high grade mineral oil with over1600ppm of zddp. Remember that racing oils do not have all the detergents required for a street driven car and may cause a sludge build up at the rings.

i have an 88' 951 and i live in new jersey. i have tried mobil and redline which has zddp. I feel like redline has an advantage in terms of the smoothness of the engine so that's what i'm running my car from now on. and the price is right. although, i want to try brad penn down the road. ..
