Slight roughness

Hi, I think my engine has a slight vibration at tickover and wonder if it could be engine mounts or possibly balance shaft belt, which has just been replaced. Apart from that the car drives really well, Is there a way of telling which it might be please? If the belt was one tooth out, would it be really rough, rather than slightly?

I had both issues over the past year. The bad mounts resulted in a vibration at idle speed and it went away when the rpms were increased. My mis-adjusted balance belt resulted in a vibration around 4K rpm.

Ah, that’s very helpful. I’ve not noticed an issue at 4K. I will of course now double check, thank you.

Go to either the Haynes manual or Clark's garage to get the measurement specs for motor mounts, and compare to yours to vet out possible age-related compression. Very easy to check.

If the mounts are bad, do replace them. If you can afford the Porsche mounts - by all means get them!

Yes thanks I’ve been looking at Clark’s for info, trying to get my head around the need to have two different bolt lengths to choose from.,
