I need help with thermostat, STAT
Alright guy's and some gal's, I think I made a minor but stupid mistake when I installed my thermostat. I recently replaced my W/P and when I put my t-stat in
I put it in the following order, thermostat, O-ring then cir-clip. If anyone could please post the correct diagram or the proper order of the install I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Also it is the new style pump with block off plate. |

I haven't done this yet but it sounds like you got it right according to www.Clarks-garage.com -thermostat with O ring and spacer and then the snap ring. I'm thinking there might be a diagram right here when you pull up one of the parts.
Good luck!

it depends, my A/M waterpump came only with a (ill-fitting) gasket that wraps around the thermostat. no 'spacer'. Same as the pump and 'stat that i removed. i had to use a driver with a light mallet to get it to seat properly in the channel. what a stupid design all around.

The o-ring should have had a "slit" around the inside edge, which allows the o-ring to be "attached" to the edge of the t-stat. There are actually 2 o-rings available. The determining factor is the spacing between the shoulder in the water pump and the snap ring groove. I have seen MANY motors where the spacer ring wasn't even used.
For what it's worth. -Nick

Not sure which yr/model yours is. I agree with many944. Recently did my '88 951, it had no spacer and the gasket fit AROUND the t stat. I tried it your way first and it just didn't fit right.
Look at your gasket closely and see if has a groove in it. Good luck, Bruce

ya, if I remember right I just used the seal that wraps around the edge of the stat and the snap ring fit snug up against it.
