Injector Cleaners?

Does anyone use injector cleaners in their 944/951's?

I've read from various sources that it's a good idea to do periodically. I've got a 87 951 w/ 85k I recently purchased. It runs well - a little rough at idle but don't want to do more harm than good if not needed.

Any particular brands better than others?

I've always been a fan of Techron. I try to use it, especially if I'm doing lots of work to the car, and it's been sitting a month or two. I've also used Seafoam.

I used to use Seafoam on my boat - worked great - wasn't sure if it was good for a Porsche engine though.

Run-Rite - best thing i have ever seen, and i am not a believer in "wonder goo" - you have to go to a facility to get it done though - 3 step process - we've tested it on a number of cars now - all saw significant improvement

yeah, but that's kind of like washing your hands without using soap - fine for in between cleanings, but not the same effectiveness

you would be amazed (and disturbed) at how much gunk builds up just using techron or any other additive in the fuel - it takes more than that to get it clean - it was quite the eye-opening experience for me, after all these years, to see how much a good cleaning did

i have now done not only the run-rite, but also an injector cleaning and balancing - my car had only 25k on it when i did it, but the difference was astounding - the higher mileage engines see even more benefit - about $100 for the injector cleaning and balancing and about $80 for the run-rite - it felt about like adding a really good chip to the 968s

You also have to be careful. I know lots of people recommend changing your fuel filter and having the injectors cleaned if you use some of the additives (like Seafoam). Since they can get so much gunk loose, it all runs through your filter and injectors, and can clog them...

P.S.- I also just had my injectors cleaned, they didn't look bad, but they are better now and a lot better flow matched.

BG44K is good stuff, too. I just run Shell Vpower all the time and seems to keep things pretty clean.

I had mine done by WitchHunter. They charge $18 for cleaning and flow testing each, plus shipping. I was really impressed with them.

Not as easy as dumping something on the tank, but much more comprehensive.

I sent eight injectors to witchhunter out of a car I used to own with about 125K miles on it. I had religiously used Techron in the almost empty tank right before an oil change. The guy sent the injectors back and said they were damn near perfect and they did not want to touch them. I also only run Super Unleaded but I am a huge believer that good preventative maintenance like Techron before every oil change will save you its initial cost many times over the life of the car.
