What's the skinny on these Fuchs?

I keep seeing two things on EBay and would like to tap your knowledge.

1) What's the skinny on the "$200" aluminum Fuchs repros I keep seeing?

Things like relative weight (vs. the real thing), quality (if they are even worth considering), etc.

2) What the skinny on these guys in S. Florida I keep seeing that seem to have an endless supply of "real" Fuchs (at about $1000 a pop). Wheel Enhancements restorations aside, I thought "real" Fuchs haven't been produced for well more than a decade. Something smells fishy.

Oh! ...and one other thing:

3) If anyone has any tidbits wrt selection and fitment of 16x9 (perhaps with a 245/x shoe) and 16x8 (perhaps with a 225/x shoe) Fuchs to a 944 (mine's an early) do please share.

Please advise,
JR

Are you talking about a place called "Ernies"?? They are very good to deal with AND have Fuchs that they have either collected or refinished over the years.

As far as Fuchs for an early 944n/a....I believe you are looking for offset 23.3mm wheels.

Hope this helps.

All Fuchs are early offset. Since I'm running 10" wide Fikses on the rear of my 944 right now, a 16x9 should fit fine. My 911 has 16x9 Fuchs in the rear, I suppose I could bolt them up to an early 944 and verify.

I don't have a 944 with an early offset rear.

The knock-off Fuchs are cast aluminum, not forged. They will not pass tech with my local club, as they have been known to crack when used hard with R-compound tires. I'm sure they're fine for street driving. Since they are not forged, they are either too weak, or if they have been thickened up to compensate, too heavy.

The factory's forged Fuchs are among the strongest, lightest wheels ever.

BTW (or a useless pieces of trivia).... according to the Fuch web site, they still make 6JX16 for the 911.
