Starter Motors

Hi the starter on its way out ,and i am going to replace it .Been in touch with local motor factors and they only have 2.5 and 2.7s listed{mines an 89 s2 3.0}

I know the 2.7s were only built in 89 .Question being does anyone know the difference between the starters for the various models? are they the same are they interchangable?

Many thanks mark{uk}

Both 89 and 91 models have two alternators listed in PET:

951 604 101 00 (1.4 KW)

951 604 102 00 (1.7 KW)

So they're obviously physically interchangable but I'm guessing that you'd be wanting the 1.7 KW version to handle cranking the larger engine.

2.5 litre engines usually use the 1.1 KW starter. I'm guessing 1.4 KW is for the 2.7

Your best best would be to get in touch with Porscheshop in Halesowen - they'll know which one you need and they'll do an exchange on your old starter.

Thanks ,but iv figured it out the high output starter was an option {cant remember code its in PET}

There was only really one type fitted throughout the range .Not checked the code sticker ,but its probably standard .I would of thought that high output starter is for really cold climates

Thanks again Mark
