Oil speculators switching to balance belt speculation. Buy and sell quickly before the balance belt bubble bursts!!

That's a timing belt. The balance belt is two sided, thus more.

That's all we need - two-faced belts.

Maybe the new ones are whine proof!

I usually change mine every second T-belt change.

Anyone heard of a broken balance belt or a slipped balance belt taking out a timing belt?

I have seen quite a few race cars with no balance shafts. I would think this would destroy engine mounts unless they were solid mounts and if so, fatigue the motor mounting castings if these things vibrate as badly as some say without the shafts.

The first time I met chitown944 and did his belts his BSB was hanging on by a thread. 75% of it was shredded and it was an act of god which kept it from taking out his timing belt.

It looks like Pelican will not be selling Contitech BB- They list a Gates for $39.

http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/PEL_search.cgi?command=show_part_page&please_wait=N&make=POR&model=944M&section=ENGman&page=4&bookmark=21&part_number=944-102-219-04-M51

I just installed my last Contitech ($40) BB I had today.

It surprises me now that no one has ever done a modification that puts an aluminum or plastic plate in between the balance belt and timing belt to keep them from interfering if the balance belt broke. I'm trying to picture it from memory but I would believe there would be room for such a panel with plenty of availible mount points from the engine bosses and oil pump bolts in the area.
