'87 944 S idle and possible lifters?

I've definitely got some lifter noise :(...it only seems to start after the car is warmed up...also intermittent...running 5w50 oil so i could try switching to a heavier oil and see if that eliminates the problem. What would be the best oil to use?

My idle also seems a little high...varies from 1000-1200 at idle...the once thing I've noticed is that even when the climate control is turned off by moving the fan speed to 0...theirs still a small amount of air that comes out of all the vents...not sure what the fix for this would be. Any help would be apreaciated :)

You live in Canada, the 5-50 oil is fine. You should be using an oil that has more ZDDP in like a racing oil. Too long to explain so read:

Seafoam will clean out your lifters-Do a search, has been covered many times.

Idle, Normally a vacumm leak in the small hoses-get a Lindsay racing vac hose kit.
The other place leaks come from are the hoses to the ICV-idle control valve. They crack by the valve. Replacement is normally done when you take off the intake manifold. If you do have ICV rubber mounts as well because they fall apart.
Search Pelican Parts.

More leaks are by any hose clamp and "J" intake boot-rotted rubber

Finally the small amount of air-Our cars have a always on recurculation fan that, well, moves air. Close your vents if it annoys you. Some years had an Off/On switch.
