newbie here; need engine swap guidance
Longtime lurker, first time poster - please be easy on the noob...
I am a fairly experience car tinkerer, have been working on various cars for years including some pretty in-depth projects, so I have a lot of basic mechanical knowledge. I am simply new to 944s. I finally decided to take the plunge. I am picking up an engine-less 84 944 (with a complete drive train otherwise) and an 88 engine with harness and DME. What else might I need to get the later style engine to work in the early chassis, aside from maintenance items (will be redoing FOE stuff, seals, maybe clutch)? My assumptions from searching here thus far: The 88 engine should bolt right up to the bellhousing from the 84. There might be some problems with the fuel supply connections - not sure what to expect here. Otherwise, the wiring should be straightforward since I have the 88 computer. I look forward to any help you guys can provide - thank you, Mick |
I just swapped a 85.5 engine into a '83. There were differences in some of the sensors and other brackets. I just used most of the parts off my old engine and bolted them onto the new engine.
I would reconmend doing the same thing this way you dont have to mess with a new computer and additional wiring. On my new engine there were 3 sensors located over the flywheel whereas my ols engine only had 2. Apeedy:) |
Oh I just saw you are engineless. Maybe you can buy the needed used parts like the fuel rail from a fellow Pelican.
