Prices keep creeping up.
Anyone else notice part prices keep creeping up? I guess it's just another sign of the times. I just made a couple big orders for gaskets and seals and what not. I ended up shopping around a bit instead of my usual just order the stuff all from the same place.
Exhaust gaskets, head gaskets, and cam tower gaskets all went up. The good news is at least I'll be getting my one car's engine back together again soon. Just in time to put it in now that the weather is nice. And then it's a clutch job for the other car, which ought to be real fun. I should get a clutch kit now maybe before prices go up more.

I totally agree.
I put a bunch of stuff on my "Wish list" here on Pelican, and between when I did that a week or 2 ago, some of the prices for $3-5 seals and such went up by a whole dollar. 20-33% price increases are significant, IMO. The good news for me is that I got my clutch stuff over time from members here and on the "Other forum" for a bunch less than retail.

Its due to the dollar losing value, and a lot of parts for a German car are coming from Germany. After a second round of a stimulus bill I only expect it to get worse.
October '06 I got a Super 64 Hohner Chromonica for $120. '07 I got one for my dad for Christmas, it was $140. Now its $240.

Definitely a huge increase in parts prices over the last few years.
Just a couple of examples I am shopping lately: flywheel locks and slave cylinders. These are small, simple parts, but look at the prices! They were a third or half of current prices (or less) a couple of years ago. If only my salary would increase as quickly...

I had a different experience pricing out a timing belt spring tensioner just yesterday. The two best known suppliers for 944 parts, P1 and the P2, wanted over $470 for the tensioner and roller. I went to my usual supplier for rebuild parts and they have them with the roller for $287, he double checked that price and confirmed it. This is for the OE unit in a Porsche box. Either someone is marking up prices well above a normal margin or the 'other' company is just always less by a wide margin. Vendor loyalty is great until the difference in price is so glaring it can't be avoided.
