Porsche 944/951 turbo acceleration slow
Hi, everyone...
If anyone can help me with this much appreciated....I have had my Porsche 944/951 turbo for 6 years and i have never had any issues with power loss. This is what happened, the last 2 weeks i got a oil change and went to a no thrills gas station and filled up. A few days later i noticed as i am going from 1st manual gear it is sluggish taking off, second gear the same and so fourth. But when i am on the parkway even though it take me a while to climb up to 60 mph it stays fine when i am driving. Its only when i stop and start from 1st to 5th i dont take off right away, its slow and finally gets there...Can this be transmission issue? Please help, not sure what to do.... can this be the fuel relay or computer relay that is causing this? Also what about the cat being clogged? I have also tried fuel injector cleaner and new sunoco ultra fill up but still the same. Fred

Turbo loosing boost?
The 951 engine has pretty a low compression ratio, so when there is no boost from the turbo, it feels pretty anemic. |

What is the boost pressure on the gauge when you are on it hard?
Also what part of LI, i am on the north shore of Nassau.

Check for a collapsed crossover pipe or clogged cat.

if it was the cat or a glogged grossover pipe, than when i am in neutral i would not be able to accelerate also no? if i am in neutral i can rev the engine with no loss of power...it only happens when i am in gear..

Nope, you are not moving as much exhaust volume in neutral as you are when you are in gear.
Come to think of it, it could be a bad turbo also.

Check and see how much boost pressure you are getting on the gauge. Its possible the wastegate is stuck open, which is not completley uncommon.

![]() Does the car smell like rotten eggs?...that would be the sign of a clogged cat. What's your boost gauge read? Where (rpm) do you have full boost? Check for leaks in pressurized intake piping.

since the power delivery changed right after you filled up i would suspect bad gas or you put in a low octane fuel...

Another possibility: when the stock, plastic blow-off valve breaks, the car doesn't want to spool up.
Detach the BOV, and blow into each of the three openings; if you can feel air coming out one of the other two ends, you need to replace it.
