Regular maintenance.

Hi all,

With winter coming to an end I'll be putting my 944 on the road in a couple of months. I also have a list of things to do with it on my TO DO pile. I only put 3000-5000ks on it per year. No more.

First things first !

I'll be doing my regular engine oil change. Are there any other fluids that I should think of doing ? Coolant has been done a year ago.

I also need to get my fog lights working. Been a pending issue ever since I got it back in '06 :P.

I checked the plug wires and replaced one with a set I bought a little while ago. Contact was corroded and actually led to faulty speedometer/oil pressure readings. ( they would pulsate lolll ). Plugs were replaced two years ago. I noticed that there was some liquid build up on the rings. Normal?

Water seems to be infiltrating into it when I leave it outside. I'll need to figure out what seal needs to be replaced.

The paint job was awesome when I got it. I wasn't able to keep it mint.

The new tranny I have does not feel right... I think that it's been sleeping for too long. I have to rev the engine high to get it moving as good as the old one. I would just let go of the clutch on the old one...

The power steering makes a grinding noise when turning the wheels at a standstill. Any input ?

The wheels have a tendency to turn under braking.

Thanks,
Chris.

When looking for water leaks, the sunroof is an obvious concern. The seal around the roof can not keep all water out. There is a trough around the perimeter and 4 drain holes at the corners. These holes are connected to tubing which head off down the A and (I guess the B) pillars. To check for this leak I put tissue paper in the areas where I thought the water was getting in, removed the sunroof, poured some water in each drain hole. Once the leaker is identified you start removing trim and replace the tubing (mine had shrunk with age and pulled short).

My power steering did the same thing, make sure you are using Dexron ATF fluid in the power steering, not Power Steering Fluid. That was my problem. Also regarding the wheels turning while braking, mine did the same. How are the tires? I had dryrotted tires, when i got new ones that seems to have quit. Good Luck!
