question about testing temperature sensors

The car is on ramps at the moment & I want to remove the DME temperature & the gauge temperature sensor to test them. If I unscrew them from the block, will coolant start draining out or do they sit in a sealed metal pocket? Steve

coolant will seep out , sensor is not in a metal sleeve !

You should not need to remove the sensor to test it. Just disconnect the plug measure the resistance with engine cold and hot and take a note of the values. Then compare them with the recommended values. I think around 2K ohms cold and 200 ohms hot. Also make sure that there is not resistance between the two sensor terminals and the ground. If so the sensor is faulty and will need replacing.
