Quick Battery Questions
It's that time again. My 951 is completely dead and is in need of a new battery. I know that the standard size battery for the 944 is a group 41. When I called up the auto store, they offered me 40 and 40R. Most stores didn't even carry the 41s in stock. The 40s are smaller so it should have no problems in terms of fitment but is the battery weaker in terms of power/voltage etc? This might be a dumb question but would I have any problems interchanging between the two sizes? Will I also have any issues with reverse terminal batteries? Lastly, does brand matter? They offered me Exide, Energizer and Duralast. Any ideas? Thanks!

Scott,
I would think living in SE Michigan you would want the battery with the best cranking power in winter. I cannot find the CCA specs on a group 40 or 40RS. Does it have the feet to hold down correctly in the batt compartment. I bought a Bosch group 41 at PEP Boys. Sears Auto Centers sells their own brand of #41 GL John_AZ |

Thanks John. I don't drive the 951 in the winter so that isn't really an issue for me there. I called up my local Pepboys and they claimed they didn't carry the group 41 batteries. I guess I'll make another call to another Pepboys around my area and see if another store has it. I didn't think about Sears so I'll give them a call tomorrow as well. Thanks for the suggestions.

I just replaced mine this morning. It is an Interstate 40R. Direct replacement. $109.
