OPRV alignment tool

As I was waiting for my oil cooler seals to arrive. I spent a bunch of time reading up on whether or not I really needed the alignment tool for the OPRV.

Today was the day to re-install the cooler. One shim, some O-rings and the housing was back on with bolts finger tight. I set it up the alignment at first using the OPRV (early three piece style) itself. I almost decided to go with it but I also had access to an alignment tool that I could borrow from my local shop (Thanks Dan!). So I decided to pick it up to check my work.

I'm glad I did! When I used the tool and tightened down the housing at first I couldn't remove it. I backed off the closest lower bolt and jiggled the tool around until it slid in and out easily. Then I retighted. Had I not opted to use the tool I would most likely have had some problems. The OPRV itself would not have caught this. Just forwarding my experience.....

Thanks for the tip.

Yeah definitely worth using. At the least you could mess up your oprv and those aren't cheap.

damn. Did you try to tighten, wiggle the cover, check for binding, repeat as you tighten until flush with the block? A magnet on a stick is needed to see if it slides in and out freely. I had no trouble what so ever, and that was my first and hopefully only time to do it.

Quit scaring people, hehe.
