Buzzing from ABS unit during tight turning

Is it normal to hear a buzzing from the front passenger side of the car, possibly from the ABS unit engaging, when making a tight turn.

I've noticed that my '87 will make this buzzing after I would back out of my driveway and have to make the sharp turn down the street. This buzzing sounds the same as when the ABS activates.

I can see how, in such a tight turn, the ABS sensor on the inside wheel may not be rotating fast enough and indicate to the controller that it is stopped and trigger the ABS in this situation.

Your reasoning is correct... but of course, this is naturally a situation which is accounted for in the ABS controller (we call it geometric slip as it wheel slip) and so shouldn't cause early ABS activation, as you believe you're experiencing (if it sounds just like when ABS comes in...).

Which leads me to believe you may have a wheel speed sensor dropping out. Not bad enough to cause a fault, all the time, but lightly, intermittently, at low speeds.

Which side may be hard to guess... does it only happen in one direction?

I would have to say I've only noticed it when I am making a left hand turn. However, I will have to pay more attention to it now and see if it does the same during a right hand turn to be sure.

Thanks 924racr.
