My 84 NA ran a bit hot (I'm in Florida) - replaced radiator...installed low temp sensor and thermostat plus ALL fan related & A/C relays...recharged & bled... NOW it doesn't get to the first bar on the temp gauge.

Checking for antifreeze floating on top of your oil will be a waste of your time... you should look for the antifreeze under your oil because water is more dense than oil.

just a suggestion.

Thanks, my mistake.

Oil and coolant leaks

The giveaway to the coolant loss is the brief white smoke when starting the engine. You obviously have coolant leaking into a cylinder which is escaping with the exhaust. I have seen this and it was fixed with a new head gasket. If you are losing that much coolant you are also getting air in the system:eek:causing overheating.
I just live with the mess caused by the minor oil leaks.
