Intermittent non starting/944

I have an 83 944. Owned from day one. 39000 miles. Over the last couple years replaced the two sensors as the car would not start. Ran good til recently and now won't start some times. Wait for a while, hours, days and suddenly it runs and well. Live on the ocean and corrosion may be a problem but it is kept in a conditioned garage. I suspect a sticking relay or ground issue. Any one have any suggestions? Dick

Start with replacing your DME relay, if that's not the problem it's good to have a spare anyway, they do wear out and when they do the car won't start or run.

I just went through a similar problem with my 86 NA. You can check the post "intermittant cut-out". What killed me was the fact that the car would die and strand me, but by the time I had a chance to do any trouble shooting, she would start right up again.

I actually just got it to start today in fact. It turned out to be the some of the DME solder joints. I reflowed some of the joints that looked bad and cleaned off some of the corrosion on the board.

One more vote for the DME relay......mine had the same intermittent starting problem you describe for a couple of weeks before it finally crapped out for good. Replace the relay now and your problem should go away. Buy an extra one and keep it in the glove box for a spare.

funny how these problems seem to cycle. i think this is three similar issues in less than two weeks. a short perusal of recent posts should give you hints.

welcome to the forum!

also recheck the gap on the sensors
best if you start from the troubleshooting matrix and eliminate things in order
dme relay is a good choice though
