Differential shims

I am planning to swap a differential unit here in the next couple of weeks and am wondering if there are shim kits for reshimming the differential. I have heard that that is a pretty critical part to do with these transmissions. I havent been able to find the kit in the parts catalog so I dont know if one even exists.

I am also wondering what the proceedure is for checking the backlash and endplay on the differential unit. On a typical rear end it is no problem since there is a back plate you can remove. On these there is no access panel that I know of to get in there with a dial indicator. If anyone can give me some information please do.

Thanks,

Matt

Individual shims are in the parts catalogue. If you can find their ID and OD you might be able to call Randy's Ring and Pinion and they could maybe find more for you (cheaper than Porsche).
