Brake dust shields?

I'm not sure what to call the black, plate-shaped thin metal things which sit behind each brake disc, but I assume they're dust shields.

I'm upgrading my 944S from standard to Turbo brakes, and I'm wondering if:

a) I'll need to get new ones
b) I can use my existing ones
or
c) I can do without them

Let me know what you think.

C.

The turbo dust shields are different. You dont need them really. I took them off my n/a which had the Brembo's and also on my 951. That was with alot of daily driving and snow use also. Never had problems.

Hey, Techno. A while back, I think you indicated that I would need a couple of washers to space out the rear calipers for the Turbo brake upgrade. Can you explain what's needed there?

For the rear trailing arm mounting points, you just need to use a generic 1/2 inch washer inbetween the caliper and mounting point. This will space the caliper towards the inside of the car somewhat. This is the same way it was done by the factory to make up for a slightly offset caliper / pad combo, but the spacer they list is like a $6 part which looks strikingly familiar to a 1/2 inch washer .

I have a set of Turbo cooling ducts - Cost of shipping if you want them.

Brake shields

I never put the brake shields back on any of my cars - But I don't use the brakes much . I don't use the rear view mirror much either - What starts behind me STAYS behind me.

Thanks, Keith.

I've sent you a PM. By the way, thanks again for the shifter!
