water in my car!

Every time it rains I get water in the back of my car. My spare tire well gets filled up along with my left brake light. None of the carpeting gets wet though. How can this water be gettign in?

Check your drain tubes maybe they come undone.

Make sure the drain holes going through the rear spoiler are clear of muck and twigs - if they are blocked you will get a puddle forming which drips its way into the car.

Have you looked to see if you can see it dripping when it is raining?

The drain holes on the spoiler are clear. they direct the water over the tail lights and I think the water is coming in through there. How can I seal the openings and does this sound possible?

If you lift the side "flaps" of the hatch carpet area up on either side, there are wheel wells.. There should be tubing from your sunroof runoff that exits there. If they are cracked or not connected, water will drain right into the wheel wells.

Additionally, underneath my rear hatch pins I have plastic covers which feed into tubing that drains out from there as well.

Keep us updated.

Take a length of stiff wire and run it through the sunroof drain tubes , they clog up with dirt. and check the bottom of the wells behind the wheels , make sure the holes are clear

I have the EXACT same problem.
The water is coming from the hatch latches. it goes down into the holes and drips down the rear into the wells. I havent got mine stopped either. Next time it rains, or you wash it. Open the hatch and im sure youll see the latches and holes wet.

The tail lamp assemblies did have a gasket type of seal originally, similar to the sealant used on the front fenders where they are bolted in. Removing the assemblies, cleaning both surfaces and using thin closed cell sponge weatherstripping might help water infiltration. But, your first line of defense is the drain hoses. Keep them clean and attched!!

listen to livewire and vinman - I used weedwhacker line to clear the tubes in my car. If you use a stiff wire, you can poke a hole in the tube, and I have no idea how you'd replace that.

The two lines from the sun roof seem to be fine. The holes in the wheel wells are clear because they do drain water. Also the two lines that drain the rear hatch look good. I'm going to put the hose on the back of my car and see what happens this weekend. I still really think it's comming from the tail lights.

One other source is the glass hatch. Sometimes the glass separates from the frame and water finds its way into wierd places. One tell tale sign is that the hatch will become misaligned. Check the top of the hatch about where the hinges are located. This can be a real pain to fix...

I did a test and confirmed that the water is leaking in from my right tail light. What is the best way to reseal the light?

Should the drain hoses go into the rear wells on each side of the car and discharge the water into the well area or should they be routed out through the drain holes and discharge the water directly out of the car?

Seal

I have used black sealant and a caulking gun. Remove the light and clean off all the old crap and I know it is there. Run a bead about the size of a pencil around area where old sealant was. Start to replace light and check from inside to see if you have enough sealant. tighten bolts and let dry. Leaks are a problem with most of these cars, so check all the secret places. Water and Porsche cardboard do not mix well.
