Restraint and Good Judgment Needed. . .Please Help!
I have an opportunity to swap an 86 951 drivetrain into my 924S. I will be getting buddy rates on the parts.
Yes, I know the rad subframe will have to go over too, and I am prepared to do that, in addition to installing a 931 header panel for airflow to the IC. Somebody talk me out of this! PLEASE! |
I am aware you are a master mechanic and someone will post the 951 picture of upgrades from Porsche.
A major issue will be the suspension and brakes after you get it in. Here is a potential list of issues with just the 951engine you most likely are aware of but may be unknown with the donor 951: http://www.oz951.com/public/broken.htm You will do what feels right & GL John_AZ |
Thanks, John. Suspension/Brembos will come from the donor car.

I would get a post 85.5 car and put the 951 stuff in that. The problems with the swap in a 87 924s make it a whole lot less appealing. My 924 ssc project is running in to all kinds of snags as I wanted to use alot of 951 parts and they just do not work with out alot of fabrication.

There have been two people out there that I know of that have swapped 968 3.0's into 924S's. If they can do that... I can imagine that you can handle the turbo swap. Yes it will take time... but it would be worth it.
|
I guess if you dont mind swapping around the upper and lower rad supports and the other bits to convert the nose then go for it. I want ed to use most of the 951 intake and IC in my car and it just is not worth it. I can put a FMIC in it and a custom intake for much less pain and aggravation. DO IT!!!!! it would be a fantastic sleeper!!!.
Oh Ya I have a 931 nose and the grills for sale if interested. Between the two I have $375 in to them and would like to get it back as I am not going to use them. I am going to put the FMIC down low in front of the rad. |

There is good info in this thread as to what it takes to put a 951 inter cooler in a pre 85.5 car. I learned a lot from the people that responded. Post #12 has some links to what it takes.

Ahh, this is a great pic, thanks for the referral. . .

shoehorn that engine in there, do an aftermarket intercooler, upgrade the clutch/brakes/springs/shocks, enjoy.
|
Don't forget about the speedometer issue. Your 951 suspension parts won't have provisions for the speedometer and your tranny will. Look into what's necessary to couple that with your 924 instrument.
|
Planning on drilling the 951 spindle for the 924 speedo cable.
|
there is also a fairly cheap electronic solution that someone posted recently.

And you can get the right amount of tire for the power you'll have |
If I wanted a turbo 944, I would buy one. Oh, and I have a solution in mind to get more rubber under the car. . .
