Whining noise
My 924s has always had this loud whining sound in the engine I tried to make it go away by putting on a Cherry Bomb on it but it didn't work you can still hear it. It gets louder as you accelerate. It's really anoying and kind of embarassing. I've heard it on other 924's and 944's before. Does anybody know what it is and how to make it go away?

^ cherry bomb?

It's a performance exhaust

gotcha. you'll have to be more clear on where it's coming from. did you check the obvious? power steering fluid level? did you recently do a timing/bs belt change where the belts are now too tight?
|
alternator? water pump? power steering pump?
|
Hi, not alot of imfo here but sounds like your balance shaft belt may be a little too tight?

Does it sound like this?
This is my 951 with too tight of a balance belt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeKRbyzO3yc |
it sounds exactly like that.
how do i fix it? |
Retension it so it's not quite as tight.
Also, another thing that really makes the balance shaft belt whine bad is if it's tightened counter-clockwise. Why, I dunno, bnut it really does make a difference. From Clark's: "Turn the tensioning roller clockwise to tighten, counter-clockwise to loosen." http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/eng-06.htm http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/eng-10.htm |
