1000 dollars

So I have one thousand dollars (the most I have ever had) to spend on the 944! So now I need some advice as to what I should buy. I need new exhaust, badly. I was thinking of the 3" exhaust system from lindsey racing. Its a bolt on, just cut off the old from the o2 sensor back and put it right on. I dont think im going to use a cat tho, at least not right now. So the system with the magnaflow muffler would be like 550-600 which is a number I like. Or I could use it on suspension, my rear shocks are due for replacement, as well as my front struts. So does anyone have any words of wisdom? I know suspension would make more sense, but my exhaust rattles and it drives me CRAZY!!!
And im up for any suggestions, not just the 2 i had.

ps. No, i will not send you the money

i assume u have a turbo...cause the a 3" on a NA would be....fall on face.

i say if the exhaust is not leaking in a sieve or cracked in half, do the suspension. what's rattling about it? it could be just a case of a hanger

I wish I had a turbo! Why would 3" be so bad on a NA? I mean with a good muffler I will still get enough back pressure. And Im pretty sure the cat is the rattling problem, as well as the fact that I dont have a muffler because of some local teens. So I would really like to get a muffler back on her, as soon as possible, so I figured I might as well just replace all the rusty old hardware and pipes while im there.

Hi, I would just put on a new aftermarket cat and have a good muffler shop bend you a pipe and put a new throaty muffler on your 944. You could spend what is left on a nice set of rims and bet you could find some nice used ones on here for a good price.

If your exhaust is shot I would go with a good used oem for @ $100, nice quiet and will keep the low end where it should be. $1 for a new air freshener and $700 on GE stock, $20 for a spare dme relay, $30 for throttle cam, $10 for wheel bearing grease (repack and adjust and the rest for any worn suspension bushings.

I broke my exhaust when I drove backwards over some tires at about 60km/h

Money was tight so I replaced it with this;

http://vibrantperformance.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1021_1031_1053_1110&products_id=28

$100 cheap and it sounds good, a little more throaty than stock but not annyoying or Ricey. Just add a nice tip and you are good to go. NO WAY I would spend $500 on an exhaust.

I would replace the shocks with some Konis. You will be shocked at what it will do for your car.

How loud is that muffler Dave? Because I like my car a louder then stock, but not as loud as no muffler. I have looked into the magnaflow, which is at a level i like but is a lil pricey.

Its a 2.5 inch straight though so it is a little louder than stock no question, but nothing crazy. I can talk on the phone in the car and get no complaints from the other end and my wife can ride in the car and not complain. Compared to NO exhaust it would be peacefull

If you are looking for a performance upgrade, check out the 944 MAX chip on Lindsey Racing's site. I wanna say they are 200$ and were programmed by a member of this board. Everyone who has one enjoys it thoroughly.

Thanks Dave! So i think I will replace the shocks and struts because I went outside today and noticed one side of my car was lower in the front, so i went to push on it and the strut was stuck in the compressed position! I pulled upward and it moved but is stuck up now, and has no bounce at all! So am I need to get whole new strut assemblys? Or can I just replace the inserts?

Dude, buy some Ground effect coilovers front 800.00 and koni's or Bilstein's shocks for the rear for now, then next time you run into some cash buy the rear set for 600.00. Then you have a pretty top notch suspension setup for a few dollars at a time. I bet you won't have to worry about you suspension for a long while!

Then when your done with the ground effects you can buy a big wing to put on the back like those styling Hondas you see everywhere right?

Nope, but I'm looking forward to getting the 968 GT adjustable spoiler. It's bigger and better than the ones on the Honda's because it's a PORSCHE! product.
