Hey, zero emissions cars would be great! Better to cut down the CO to half of what it was than to do nothing! I'd rather not be breathing in exhaust when I go for a walk :)

Josh, are you saying it was the AFM that caused my cat to blow?

In a modern fuel-injected car, the catalytic converter serves no purpose. Because the air/fuel mixture can be continually adjusted several times a second, it is possible to keep the combustion in near-perfect stoichiometric balance. You can pass emissions (the actual chemical-test part) without it. They did serve a purpose on carbureted cars, but IMO, they do more harm than good on fuel-injected cars. They will actually cause MORE emissions over the life of a vehicle on fuel-injected cars (thus negating their purpose) because they reduce gas mileage. They are simply a leftover relic of technology that some, who are more attached to sentiment than facts, are unwilling to allow to go away.

On the 944, I've found that a sharpened 3' piece of rebar and a sledgehammer will make quick work of the cat. A shop vac with a hose narrow enough to feed into the exhaust will help suck out the debris and large chunks. I was able to see highway mileage as high as 39 mpg after this "mod".

Point me to some articles that show figures. I can't find any.
