Rear hatch release motor - 944S2

I need to replace the release motor for my rear hatch - in a 1989 944S2.

The release no longer works with the key - or the switch.

The fuse is OK.

Where do I find a replacement hatch motor - new or used ?

Dick

Should still work with the key... try turning the key and lifting the hatch gently from different places ( left, middle right) it may just be a stuck catch.

Turning the key does not result in the normal motor sound - nothing happens when I turn the key left or right. Usually you can hear the release working - even if the hatch is stuck.

. When you manually use the key to open the hatch, the motor is not in use. If you turn the key you will hear something moving inside. That is the arms that release the hatch. Might want to try to take off the 2 black boxes (they should have drain tubes connected to them) the hooks that release the hatch may be stuck and need some oil. Thats what happened on my 924S, hatch wasnt opening smoothly, was releasing one, but not the other. I have a hatch motor (cheap beacuse it sucks when things dont work right)if you need it, send me a PM me if interested.

Is it the '89 or '90 where they went to full electric on the rear hatch release?

I am thinking that '89 should still be mechanical with the key, so you should be able to get it open if you can turn the key. Try banging on the hatch over the pins when turning it and see if it goes.

Make sure to lube things up well before closing it again :P

Good luck, Keith

My 89 S2 is electrical only, so I imagine his is as well. In my case the button in the drivers' wheel well would work, but not the key.
