87 944S gear ratio

Hello,

Does anyone knows or can point me to where to fine the gear ratio out of the 87 944s as compare to a regular 944? Is it longer or shorter?

I'm looking in wanting a short 5th gear.

Thanks,

I think the 87 944S has the same tranny as the turbo if I remember correctly. Don't remember what 5th gear specs are though.

^ Nope,
The 944S trans is the same as a standard N/A trans only a little shorter gearing (including a short 5th). The R&P is the same final drive ratio as the N/A.

Hope it helps,
Nick

So from what you said, it does have a shorter 5th gear as compare to the 944NA?

It has the same 5th as the '88 944's, and the '87-88 924S's. Earlier cars had the tall 5th

As Rick Harrison stated earlier, you can find all the gearing info in Clarks Garage Shop Manual under Transaxle-Information.

this was the first time i ever went to clarks garage . they are way out of date with there trans info . there missing about 15 percent of the trans codes from what i have in my porsche factory information books . the turbo and turbo s uses the same trans and the 944 and 944s use the same trans . that is for USA car specs only ! gear ratio wise ! then its up to the trans code .thats on the out side of the trans that tells you what 5th gear and FDR that trans has . if the code can not be found then with the trans in 5th gear spin the input shaft 14 rotations . the output shaft should spin 1 time . 14 to 1 will make it 37:27 5th and FDR 9:35 . this is out of the porsche book i have .
