Bad gas on engine

I am in the middle of replacing my fuel line, FPR and damper. While i was trying to take the fuel line off, the injecters didnt come off with the fuel rail like Clarks said they would. Cylinder #3 injectoer didnt come out so gas was poring out. I quickly tried to put the fuel rail on to try and loosen the others out, but getting the fuel line off was only 1 way- to pull. Gas was going to get on the engine at some point Im sure. If I were to fire up the car in 1-2 hrs., would I be blown up, or would the gad dry out enough?

P.S. Thinking about doing the vacume lines too, but dont know what size the lines are. What do I need, and how much line? Local auto store have them?

gas evaporates quickly, if you smell a strong gas smell, wait until it fades.
OH you aren't in an enclosed garage are you?

No, I am outside working in my street, away from things. Gas was everywhere, catch rags were soaked, and my hands still smell of gas. I didnt know if gas evaporated right away, or if some parts lingered for a few days. Just didnt want another one of my cars catching fire again. Thanks.

If the car has been sitting for a couple hours before you started this job then there should be no pressure to the fuel rail. The fuel damper relieves the pressure after an hour or so of the car sitting. I have a fuel pressure gauge on my fuel rail so I see it go to 0 after sitting around. There is fuel in the system, just no pressure. You may want to look at replacing the fuel damper.

ALSO!!!! Be sure to inspect the rubber fuel line from the fuel rail to the damper. It lays on top of the cam housing and is known to dry rot and crack easily. Porsche had a recall on this part as it obviously caused engine fires. I found mine to be dry rotted and cracked.

first off, gasoline does not explode, so "blowing up" is not going to happen - it's a liquid that you can actually put a lit match out in - if you happen to have a captured pocket of vapor though, that can explode, but that's about it - that whole "gas tank exploding" thing is just on tv and almost never happens

however, it can catch fire pretty easily - that's what makes it a great fuel - be absolutely sure that there is no fuel left anywhere - look around carefully for captured puddles in and around the engine - it does not evaporate that quickly that a puddle will go away in an hour

Thanks guys. I went out and started her. She started, but then quickly shut off. Sometimes she sputters to a stop, Ill start a new thread about this though. I still smell gas all around the car. I smell it by the injecters, inside slightly, and around the back of the car. I dont rember smelling gas prior to all this (while she was running good). I think my injecters are all the way in, but I will check them out tomorow.

You may need new o-rings for the fuel injectors.
