rear spaeker install

Hello All:

I am thinking of installing speakers in the rear of the 944.

My rear carpet is OK but missing the foam on one side.

I did see someone had installed 6x9's in the storage areas in the rear.

I was looking to do some sort of flush mount.

My buddie thinks I should pulll the remaining foam and fasten wood underneath the carpet and mount the speakers through the carpet keeping the stock appearance. I am open to suggestions. I am not looking to have a boom box but just some rich sound.

thanks

CPR has some molded plastic pieces that can fit in your front doors where the 4x6 speakers go, and allow for larger speakers there.

I don't think that the price is too bad either: www.944-951parts.com look under "Aero wings & parts at the bottom...

Cheers, Keith

I will post pics this evening or tomorrow of what I have half-done on our 944. Fitting a pair of JL Audio 8w3v3's with the proper sized custom boxes. The rest of the car already has Inifinity Reference series.

I put a bass tube and 50 watt amp where the spare tire used to go. The bass is awesome and comes right through the seats. The overall sound is great.

Here is a pic of my prototype fiberglass box for the right rear. It sits flush with where the carpet "wing" sits on the rubber bumper (attached near the outer rear light). I put it in a few days ago and it sounds pretty good with just one, can't wait to get two. I have revised the design and am working on the second version. Takes quite a bit of fitting and modifying to get it correct.

8w3's require 0.3 cubic feet, box holds 0.37 cubic feet. Subtract the 0.03 for the speaker itself, and I'll fill the remaining 0.04 with foam. I wrapped the box with FatMat, kinda like DynaMat but cheaper and not quite as good. The PO already hacked the rear carpet because he put some free-air woofers mounted directly to the hardboard under the carpet wings. I'll get pics once everything is installed as well.
