Brembo Dismantle

Yes, another Brembo dismantling question. . .any suggestions on getting the small allen head screws off, that hold those two plates in the caliper?

TIA

I was able to simply unscrew them using an Allen wrench. Most of them anyway. For the one plate that I couldn't get off, I just left it there and stripped and recoated the caliper with that plate in place.

They aren't locked in nearly as hard as the main bolts. A little bit of heat would probably help with them, not sure.

YMMV...

OK, I have given them a couple of good soakings with PB Blaster, and heat seems like a good next step. Thanks!

Hi Its probably a bit late but for anyone that comes across this thread.

Ive just had to remove the rusted bolts and pad rub plates to get to the alluimium corrosion behind the plates

because a star bit just rounded the head of the bolts I had to drill out the bolts

To do this I used a 90 deg air drill thats used in the avation industry, this has a very small head that fit inside the caliper and It holds the ground down drill bit in place with a specific size screw on collet.

I started with the caliper held firmly in a bench vice and with a 5/16" brill bit drilled to a depth just below the head of the bolt, then used a small sharp cold chisel and 1/2 lb hammer to sheer the head off.

The plate then lifted away with the help from a screwdriver. this left the bolt shank still inside the caliper block, and all the corrosion uncovered. using a guide (a 90 deg line drawn on a piece of plate) I drilled a 1/8" hole through the bolt using the guide to ensure I was drilling straight. I knew when I was at the the end of the bolt (16mm) as the drill would drop into the gap between the bolt end and the caliper.

I then used a snap-on bolt extracter as this type is used with a spanner that gives you more access rather than a tap holder that only gives you 90 deg of movement.

I intend to media blast the corrosion and repaint them soon.

I have photos that I hope to place on a blog Im doing but can post them later if anyone is intersted.
