944 NA cylinder head and cams question

Hi,

Were all of the cylinder heads between 83 and 88 the same or was there a change made through the years.

Also, same question on cams.

Thanks

Ed

there was a difference on cams. both between the years and between the turbo vs. NA models. the differences are not huge, IIRC.

the turbo heads have ceramic lined exhaust ports and sodium filled exhaust valves. as for the others, i believe the cylinder heads were the same, with the obvious exceptions for the 16 valve models.

someone is sure to correct me, if i am mistaken, but i believe an 8 valve head from an '83 can be used in place of an 8 valve head in an '88, and so on.

So, which of the stock NA camshafts for the 2.5 is best.

Thanks

Ed

The turbo cam and the early cam are the same and have less exhaust lift than the late NA. The later cam should be the better one to have. I know I've heard some people swap late NA cams into turbos for a small upgrade. I would look for a late NA cam and it seems like '85 was the changeover. I would assume it was 85.5 like everything else.
