Engine Swap Questions
alright so after a month now of workin on my 83' i finally had it ready to put back together, take my head to the shop only to find out its trash. so i set out to look for a new head and find a local selling a complete engine harness and all belt driven accesories.
now my problem, the engine is from a 86. i gave a call to carl's place, the local porsche shop and he wants to modify my car to fit it. i know from reading posts here that all the work he wants to do is not required and that its more for aesthetics. my question is what do i need to change besides the dme, engine harness, and longer fuel lines? so far ive read that everything else mounts up just the same. |
??
Just put on your old fuel rail and sensors to utilize your old harness and fuel lines. Just my .02 worth. -Nick |

Oh, didn't even think of goin that way. But the 86 has automatic belt tensioning, how will I adapt that without switching the dme?
|
1) The 86 doesn't have automatic belt tensioning, that started in 87,'
2) The DME doesn't have anything to do with the tensioning. |
ah, the PO of the engine had stated it had the auto tensioning, so the just switching the fuel rails and sensors should be ok? would i still need longer fuel lines since the 86 lines came from the ps and mine come from ds.

My late 86 which I bought brand new did have an autotensioner so it actually started sometime in 86 but that has nothing to do with what you are trying to do. I agree with Nick and George, put your old stuff back on...that's all you have to do.
