1984 944 aluminum windshield trim removal
I plan on refinishing the aluminum windshield trim on my 1984 944. The problem is getting it off without damaging it... Any suggestions?

Good luck. Gentle pressure and patience are the keys.

The key to it is knowing how the clips come off. They slide up and then back(or is it back then up?). They have an L shaped groove.
If you are careful and/or lucky you can pull the trim off without taking off the clips, they are kind of spring loaded against the trim but don't actually lock the trim in any way. The clips can be buried in the windshield adhesive which makes them doubly difficult to remove. I would advise getting some extras from a parts car if you can. a few will get ruined if you need to get them off. The trim is very soft, so be careful. Try to use some long pieces of wood or similar to distribute force.

Go get an interior trim tool found at your local auto part store. It is a handy tool. Use new clips - when you are ready to install the trim
