raising my hood cracked my windshield

my winshiled had a small crack in the lower passenger side since i bought the car 6 mos ago. today, i just had safelite glass come and replace the windshild. the tech noticed that the hood was very close to the windshild and speculated that when raised, it might make contact with the glass and that is probably what caused the crack in the first place.

so after he replaced the windshild and left, i opened the hood slowly and noticed that it does make contact with the windshield (my new windshield) in the same spot as where the crack used to be. so to avoid cracking another windshield, does anyone know how to adjust the hood? it looks like i have room to move it towards the nose of the car and that might give me just enough clearance to open the hood without hitting the glass.

There is usually a fairly large gap between the hood and nose panel & headlight buckets. If this is the case, you should be able to adjust the hood forward.

Just four bolts hold the hood to the hinges- Two on each side. Loosen them all, and slide the hood forward a skosh. You will also need to adjust the hood latch- You don't want to get the hood stuck in the closed position!

The bonus here is that the car will look better with a smaller gap at the front of the hood.

i fixed it...sort of.
the driver's side already was adjusted as far as it could go that would bring the hood forward. i adjusted the passenger side to move it as far as it would go too. so now it won't hit the glass (that's the good part) but now the hood isn't completely straight in line with the fenders. now i have a fairly large gap between the hood and the fender on the passenger side by the nose, while it's very tight on the driver's side. it's kind of annoying.

Same thing happened when I brought home my latest car a '87 951. If the hood shocks are bad that will allow the hood to be opened higher than it should. I found out the hard way. Did SafeLite install the original Securite windshield with radio antenna? What was your cost?

I have no idea which brand windshield they installed. It does have the radio antenna in it though. It doesn't seem to be an original part because there is a little gap on each side, so I'm sure it's aftermarket. Total cost was $557 plus tax, but I didn't pay a dime. I have full glass coverage through my insurance which means no deductible, no charges whatsoever. And full glass coverage is only about $25 extra for the year. For states like CT that offer it, I don't know why anyone wouldn't get that coverage.
