I'm not hearing good noises

Hey guys, So I was out on the highway today not driving hard or anything, when I start hearing a low hum from the back of my car. The hum happens anywhere from 30 mph to 55 mph but you can really hear it when just letting off the accelerator from 55 to 50 mph. Right now I'm thinking it can be the tranny or the Torque Tube. Ill try and drain the tranny fluid this weekend and let you guys know what I find. Just from that what do you guys think it could be?

separated tire tread? dying ring and pinion? noisy fuel pump? the treadmill that the gerbils run on has a bad bearing?

bad rear bearing or a CV is going out.

Ill take that into consideration. That hamster was a special option for the 16 valves in 1987 with the production month of February only. But your the second person to mention rear bearings. I just looked through my car history and there was no sign of any work on the tranny, and the Front bearings were replaced at 91k but not the rear. Also the whine is also happening even when im coasting in neutral. And I'll be draining the tranny fluid this weekend I'll let everyone know the results.

I'm not a complete total expert in the 944, but lots of noise with the accelerator lifting is ring and pinion in MANY vehicles I've worked on.

I really hope its not ring and pinion, that just means that I get to buy a whole new transmission.
