Need to replace all Brake Lines on '83 944
Blew a brake line the other night while out for a drive. This is one of the hard steel lines. Looking under the car all the lines are very corroded, so they should all be replaced.
Locally no one has the line or fittings needed. So here are my questions before I order line and fittings in bulk. There are eight lines that need to be replaced. - What size steel seamless line is needed? ( probably buy a 50ft roll ) - What are the fittings size and thread pitch? - Will my SAE Double Flare kit work or do I need a special Metric Double Flare kit? TIA Mark |
Metric double flare.
The fittings at the caliper are 10 x 1.0mm. The line measures 3/16 inch or 4.75 mm at the OD. I got my supplies at fedhill www.fedhillusa.com |
yeah - since you need to replace the flexible lines anyway, as they are contaminated by the corroded lines, and they go to the calipers, which are metric, you're pretty much stuck with metric throughout
you should be replacing the master cylinder and rebuilding the calipers too |
Thanks for the info.
Calipers have already been rebuilt and I have braided hoses ready to go on. Placing my order today. |
sweet - fresh calipers make a big difference - that's where a lot of the gunk sits, and it gets into your lines - a fresh master, to get the last bits of corrosion and contamination out of there, and you're set with a whole new system - those brakes should feel remarkably firmer
