Harness Wiring

alright so after figuring out all the vacuum lines ( hopefully ) i started to connect the harness for a electrical test, only to realize i forgot which connector went to which sensor, main ones of concern are the reference sensors. will it be bad if those two are backwards?

2nd there are 3 wires with eyehole connectors where do these go? they are not the ones that connect the starter or the ones for the oil pump housing. they end right beside the battery bay so im assuming they were connected to the battery.

Go to www.clarks-garage.com and check in the garage shop manual for the section called Speed and Reference Sensors. It will show you which pins from the DME go to which sensor.

thanks, the sensor wires are marked ill have to clean up the connectors and see if they are marked as well.

what about the 2 eyehole connections that end at the battery tray? looking at the wiring schematic it seems they connect to the negative terminal but im not sure how that works as they are both different size eyeholes and the ground connection from the negative terminal is larger.

This is a reason why everyone needs to wrap white/blue/red/yellow around one of their sensors before they ever disconnect them. One thing for everyone to do next time the hood is up.

mystery wires are 3 brown on one, and 3 brown 2 brown/yellow on the other. might be 2 b 2/by.

as for the tape idea, yea definitely going to do that next time. i had marked all the vacuum lines but after sitting for so long they fell off

Please post a picture. I've never seen anything like that connected to the battery.

Hard to tell, but, don't those ground wires connect to the block near the reference sensors? I haven't seen wire harnesses go over the top of the fuel rail before, so I could be wrong.

haha, the harness is only over top to test. once everything is running correctly ill put it under the intake like it would normally be.

and come to think of it i didnt attach any wires to the block so your probly right that those are the ones that ground the block

on another note, i looked at the harness and it wasnt marked in any way which sensor connection went to each other. they both had the same numbers . how would i know which pins those connectors connect to?

what would happen if these 2 sensors are connected backwards?

If reference and speed sensors are not connected correctly, the car will not start.

On the block, you should see marks B and D. On the wire harness there should be little paper "like" tape that is marked with BG and DG.

BG = Reference Mark Sensor
DG = Speed sensor

Hopefully, the wiring harness coming from the ECU/DME computer brain is still marked somehow with this tape. You might not be able to read it, so very carefully pull a little tape off at a time until you can read the label.

Hope this helps and good luck!
