NASA Autobahn event: Free pro pics of your Porsche & more!

This year, out annual family day at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet is getting even better! Porsche is the featured marque, and 944 Spec drivers will have a dedicated pro photographer on Sunday. Last year, over 700 pics were taken - everything from fun in the pits to on track shots with Horatio from Time Stilling Photography hanging out in the back of a Suburban getting some action shots. Full resolution digital pics will be free, no watermarks! We will also be supporting a charity- the "Fit is Fast" campaign that targets preventing childhood obesity. We will have a Porsche Corral, and lots of kid friendly events - pedal car races, an inflatable air gym, crafts, etc., so bring out the whole family along. Mark the Calendar - July 17th-19th (most kid events on the 18th, pro pics on the 19th)

Racecar, or not, bring your Porsche out - you can do DE, lunch touring, or even just hang out. There is an enduro Friday afternoon as well. We will be working hard to get this event and the pics into Grassroots Motorsports, with NASA's support on this, so don't miss out. If you look at this month's picture in GRM's yearly calender, you'll see I've had some luck getting into GRM in the past!

Here are some of the pics from last year:

Anyone can come out and start in HPDE1, and move up from there. If you have a lot of experience, you may be able to start higher. It's all great fun.

A friend of mine will be out in my 944S - 1st time on track. If you've got a Porsche, we'll get some pictures.

Eric,

where can I find info on registration?

I may be able to make it up for the HPDE if I can get a new clutch in my car next weekend. If not, then maybe just to hang out.

Registration is here:

https://www.nasaproracing.com/event/894

If you let them know I referred you, membership is free (if you're not already a member).

Nick of BENMS (www.BENMS.com) could help you finish that clutch at the track if need be. He charges shop rates at the track (awesome deal for trackside work).

If you can make it Friday, we're always looking for pit crew for the enduro. It'd e great to meet you in person!

If you are a race driver new to NASA, your membership fees, and comp. license fees will be waived for this event - saves over $100.

If you're doing HPDE, your memebership fees will be paid/waived.

We have 9 drivers so far for 944 Spec - should be some great racing!

Update:

NASA has announced they will be offering a one session "Hyperdrive" program with instruction, for $59. This gets you on track, at speed, with a certified instructor, for $59! This is a first for NASA Midwest.

Eric.... the single session Hyperdrive sounds like a nice low cost way to get into HPDEs- I take it that it takes place during one of the HPDE1 sessions?

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to get a clutch in my street car in time to be able to track it, and the 944-spec project car is still a ways away from being on her feet.

If I can find a 944 or other Porsche to borrow for the Hyperdrive I'll be there. If I make it, the rest of the weekend I'd love to help out in the paddocks or with Nick. I'm a rather seasoned race engineer when it comes to formula car racing, and I can help out with anyone who wants me around. I'm pretty experienced in scaling a car- doing cross weights, making setup changes, doing tyre analysis before/after. I have camber gauges, pyrometer, etc that I can bring and help anyone who needs it. I would bring our set of scales but unfortunately they are meant for formula cars only and have a max weight of about 1200 lbs.

If anyone has a car I can hop in for a session on the 18th let me know.

Mike

Actually, the Hyperdrive has its own session and classroom, separate from HPDE 1. HPDE 1 is usually sold out by event time, and there is not room for a bunch more cars. It is a great deal.

My street 944S is being used for HPDE 1. If the timing works out to also use it for the Hyperdrive, you could drive it.

Mike,

I have a new in box Sachs clutch & throw out bearing that I ended up not needing if you haven't bought yours yet. I could bring it to Autobahn if you want to buy it.

We are putting on a session on preparing your Prosche for the track - interested in talking on corner weighting?

We could use help with tire temps/pressures as we figure out our R-888's. A tire pyrometer would be very helpful - please bring it!

I might be able to bring some scales - need to borrow them.

Thanks!
