Can bad Reference Sensor alone cause no spark?
1983 944 NA
Experienceing the usual no start 944 condition. Had previously settled on DME, but wanted to test further. On checking resistance on the sensors, Speed Sensor checked out, but Reference Sensor has infinite resistance between all three terminals. Have zero tach bounce also. Can the Reference Sensor alone cause a "no spark" condition? No tach bounce? Anyone know? Thanks! |
Hi, my car ran fine then stopped running at a stop light all of a sudden. I had no spark to the plugs and it was a reference sensor that was the culprit. Had shop repalce that and my 83 944 ran fine ever since.

Thanks!
Just ordered a new one.

you can get a BMW reference sensor that is about half price I have heard and is the same thing. Maybe do a search to get the part number.

If anyone comes up with the BMW Reference Sensor Part # please let me know.
Thank you, Larry |
Pull up this thread without the quotes. The BMW info is available.

yes, BMW has the same wires (speed/ refernece sensors) on the late 80's ? 5 series, I think thats the specs. Numerous people have said what BMW model and years the 944 wires are compatable with, I just forget. $70 instead of 130 for the 944 ones.
