Today I replaced my heater control valve. Took her for a short drive afterward, and everything seamed fine.
Tonight my nephew needed a ride somewhere, and halfway there, she sputtered a bit and died. Then would not start again. Almost felt like I was out of gas, but I know that is not it. Could I have screwed up the reference censers? Maybe the fuel pump relay? Or what else could it be? It to late to mess with it tonight, but the morning will have me digging in to find the problem. Just my luck I get her looking great with a buff and polish. And finally have everything working just the way it should, and this happens. Did I piss off the Porsche gods by fixing everything that was broken? OTR

OTR2,
First, replacing the heater control valve was a good thing. Check the reference sensor connections on the firewall. If you removed the wires to get access to the HCV, check to make sure they are in the correct order. The wires are labeled. You may have caused a vacuum hose to come apart. Check the hoses and the "t" connections. It should be a simple fix. GL John_AZ 1988 924S 60K + 1987 924S 113K |

Okay I found it. The connectors for my Speed and Reference Sensors are original, cracked and broken. And when I changed the HCV I must have dripped some water on them, causing them to short out.
A hair dryer and a bit of black tape. and she is back on the road. I'll have to replace them soon. I still think I pissed off the Porsche gods in some way. Maybe I have fixed to much. I'll have to lite a candle at the alter tonight, to make amends. OTR

They carry the female end, but not the male end. And that is the side I need.
I may need to buy need new Speed and Reference Sensors to get what I need. Just can't afford that right now.

Now I am having other issues.
She often dies when I come to a stop. Then when I restart her it will crank over a bit, then it's almost like it starts to turn backwards. Like it is misfiring. Also at speed it feels like I'm not getting full power. Almost like the air fuel mixture is off. Not to mention the new fan temp sensor I just put in is defective. And the low fan is not coming on at all now. I know I was due for some problems. In the 4 years I have had this car, I have had no trouble at all. I guess I'm making up for it now. OTR

Well I guess it's just my time. Got the Speed and Reference Sensors sorted out, but I still didn't think she was running right.
After some checking I found the O2 sensor was out and defaulted to a lean mixture at all times. Swapped it out and man what a difference. Not to mention that one of my fans has gone bad. Well I'll have to pick up a new one, but she will have to do with one for now. Now I know I did something to piss off the Porsche gods. What can I do to get back in their good graces? OTR

![]() BTW-if you oxygen sensor was disconnected (out?) you would have a "rich" gas problem usually at idle and as Clarks writes, smell gas. This is a major reason to fail emissions tests. No signals sent to DME-open loop. Your sensor may have had internal damage and sent the DME computer "lean" signals. http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/fuel-18.htm In any case, you fixed it! By out I mean broken, not working correctly.
I am assuming that it was damaged in some way, as it was running very lean. Causing her to stall when I stopped at a light, and not having all the power I was used to at speed. Now I still need a new cooling fan motor, and she will be back to normal...... I hope. OTR

The best way to appease the P-car gods is to take several $100 bills, and light each one on fire in succession until you pass out.
