924 v 944 brakes

Are the early 924 brakes the same or similar to the early 944 brakes? I found an early 924 parts car but not sure if the parts vary at all. I am referring to hubs spindles for the front and rear trailing arms

Fallow up. If it is not a 924s is it hard to convert from 4 lug to 5 lug, I believe it is just the hub and rotor but would the caliper work or would that need to be changed.

Early 924s had drum brakes in the rear, and used four lugs. Not the same as 944 brakes at all.

No it's not hard, just need to get parts from donor car.

Front: spindles, hubs, calipers, rotors, dust shields
Rear: rotors, hubs, calipers, dust shields and caliper mounts. Also parking brake cable as this is different from 924 NA.

It's a 3-4hours job and front needs alignment after that (because of changed spindles).

A few other minor diffs, but the suspension arms can be used even if it's a 4-bolt. If converting, there are short hard (steel) brake lines between the hose and the caliper in the rear - either need to take those over (for the 5-lug setup) or (preferable) bend up new ones.

Also, a point often missed when doing the conversion - brake plumbing needs to be changed from X-split (LF and RR on one brake circuit, LR and RF on the other) to what's known as TT or H split (fronts on one circuit, rears on another) - which is what the 944 had. Otherwise your braking will be all F'ed up.

If you're looking to source spare parts from that parts car to a 944 - Raceboy has pretty much covered what's different, so most anything on that list could be used, plus the front calipers on the 4-bolt setup become the rear calipers on the 5-lug.

Vaughan, 924NA front pistons are bigger diameter than 924S/944 rear pistons. So with stock 944 fronts it will be messed up balance.

Ah, OK, sorry, my bad!

Actually... that could lead to interesting possibilities for the racetrack, if you wanted to mess with adjustable bias! I don't, but if you wanted adjustable... well first crank up the rear brake torque too high (using these calipers), then limit it back with an adjustable bias valve...
