Carfax....carfax....how important!!!!

Boy did i get blind sided just when you think you can trust people you can't ... I always do a carfax on any car i'm thinking about buying .... But figured it's coming from a fellow member huh can't be all that bad not!!!!...well i'll take some of the blame for not running a report. But now i have a car that the value has went to half of what i needed to get for it... Well i decided to sell my car but when i placed an ad on ebay ..it was canceled 3 days later. So i did the report..... Flood damage and rolled back odometer now what? The car seems fine the mileage looks fine .... The car doesn't smell or even look like it's ever been flooded. By the way the report says 10 years ag0 or at least 3 p.o away from me...it looks like i'm going to take a bath on this one ... No pun intended. And i need to sell ...i'm pissed...

in my opinion, they're almost worthless other than showing mileage/change of ownership/registration.

not all accidents are reported, same with hail/flood damage/salvage title.

on a car 20+ years old, who's to say it was driven 200 miles a year or 20k.

The flooded part is real bad. Sorry to read your pain. The odometer part is normal to a point. Our odometers stop, we replace the gears or fail to repair for a few years or replace the odometer. The PO should have been upfront.

This is the 951 right?

You put a lot of work and money into the car.

no.....it's a 944s that i foolishly traded it for ..... so i went from a clean car that needed some work to a tainted car that looks and runs good.

Arizona_928 07-18-2009 04:50 PM

Really strange. What condition is the interior, mostly the carpet?
How is the title? Is the one you have clean, or rebuilt?

911paige 07-18-2009 04:57 PM

carpet looks clean interior clean regular wear and tear looks like a well kept 100,000 mile car ..... clear clean new, york title just wondering based on this info how much it would affect the selling price?

John_AZ 07-18-2009 05:02 PM

911paige,
I just looked at your for sale ad on Pelican and the car is nice. Our cars at 22+ years are close to getting antique plates in some states.

Your price is OK for what you have included if you can provide receipts. The buyer will haggle no matter what is found if he wants it bad enough. I bought a 1979 924 with a salvage title knowing I would and did keep it until it went to the EPA.

If you want to find a better answer, have a professional PPI done and make copies for the new buyer.

i would like to see pics of this so called flooded car... if all the problems have been addressed i dont see why you cant ask for what its worth. A well sorted car is a well sorted car. no bones about it. Good luck

911paige 07-18-2009 05:21 PM

thanks guys ..... it true if someone wants a car bad enough he will buy it .. i once bought a 911 with a salvage title ... and sold it for what i paid...pics of interior coming up...

It looks good and the mats do not have shoe heel indents or tears. Maybe the PO had a good insurance company 10 years ago and did a lot of replacement work ???

is that rust on the seat rails?

911paige 07-18-2009 06:56 PM

i've seen many seat rails they all look like that... even worse...depending on where you store your car moisture will always get through. unless people have a garage queen that has never seen the out doors...

HondaDustR 07-18-2009 07:04 PM

heck, that looks alot better than my interior.

1985porsche944 07-18-2009 07:40 PM

As far as I am concerned try selling it at the price you wanted to but of course mention the flood damage. And I would explain that it has worked however well since you have had it. Well good luck with the sell.

running_cold924 07-19-2009 07:28 AM

okay, THIS WAS MY CAR just so everyone knows. the trade was my S (his car now) for an 86 951 that needed a bunch of work. when I bought the S, i never did a car-fax either so water damage and a rolled back odometer are news on me!!!!!!!!! I KNOW I bought a well sorted car and it has never let me down! and before he got it, all the necessary work was already done. the interior is BEAUTIFUL and no it does not stink like water or mildew. looks great for a 22 year old car!

911paige - if you want to talk call me because I don't appreciate the stab in the back

i bought a well-sorted car

911paige 07-19-2009 07:57 AM

first off i never mentioned your name so no back stabing here i pm'd you on this.... so now you put out here... i'm not here to trash anybody... so what say you now. and i never said it stunk. also i think it's a great car but when you sell a lot of people refer to the history of a car before they buy it...thanks

carlege 07-19-2009 08:35 AM

LOL way to call yourself out! 911paige handled it well he wasnt slandering you by any means. it dosent look like a bad car.... but im not sure i would trade a turbo for an S car regardless of condition..... turbo = too much potential

running_cold924 07-19-2009 08:45 AM

so its just a b*#@h session....good luck with the car.
