Keep Track Of Those Oil Plug Crush Washers!
Head-slap stupidity here…draining oil and thinking that the drain flange somehow looked like a stuck crush washer. (Jeesh I’ve done this a gazillion times - WTF? Senior Moment?) So I picked at the imaginary washer a bit - thankfully not dinging it up before I decided to reinstall the plug and call it a day, leaving the filled waste oil tub for another day (I’ll never do that again!).
In the meantime…a few drips of oil under the car - but apparently not blowing out under load as the stick still indicates full. When I finally got around to emptying the waste pan…lo and behold - there was the old crush washer - aarrgghh!! So…I will now empty the fresh (Porsche branded/pricy) oil into an immaculately clean pan, check the drain flange carefully, install a fresh crush washer and pour the “new” oil back in. Could have been worse I suppose - if somehow that crush washer really had been stuck - I’d really have a mess on my hands! |

If you are quick you can probably remove the plug, install the crush washer, and reinstall without losing more than a quart.

id rather loose 4 quarts than get even one tiny speck of sand in the oil. I agree with the quick switcharoo plan. if you are going to catch and re-use. at least use a funnel with a gasoilne screen.
