![]() Hello All, I am having trouble with my 88 944 N/A. For the last few months for at least twice a month, when attempting to start my car I would get a click instead of the engine turning over. And usually it starts after a few tries, well yesterday it did it again, and after a lovely push start I lost all instuments on the dash for about 10 minutes. Does anyone have a clue?....Help please Ken Long ![]() 88 944 N/A (Black) 87 944 N/A (Guards Red) |

Like a dead battery clickclickclickclickclickclickclick? Maybe a bad battery or alternator.

Most likely bad alternator output causing battery to discharge.
![]() Check alternator belt tension, and check all battery terminal connections and grounds for corrosion. |

Take your battery out and to an auto parts store. Have them test your battery. Either the battery is bad or just has a low charge,
I had a good, new battery with a low charge, They said at the parts store that the car maintains the battery charge and does not really charge it from dead to full capacity. So they charged it for free and I have never had a problem since then. Do you have an additional draw on the battery when the car is off? I had an after market stereo put in that was draining my battery. I fixed the drain but I was still getting a dead battery. That's when I took it to the parts store and got it charged properly. Hope that helps!

Djkikwlong it sounds like you have a power drain. Period of time is a key indicator. If you are running your car and the meter is 13 plus with no fluctuations (other than turning on lights or other big power draws), your alternator is working correctly. Especially if the battery will charge and hold a charge. If you park for a period of time and come back and the car "clicks", you may have something like a radio lead or other item that is using current while the car is off.
Go to http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/elect-26.htm The instruments on the dash not working makes it sound like a poor connection. You may need to check all of your battery wiring plus the wiring under the fuse box (disconnect battery first - under the hood - two screws - lift up and look) for corrosion. Look for bulging wires; green or white powder. Come back and let us know what you find out. ![]() .
