Some general questions for you guys.
The headlights on my car suuuuuuuck. What do you guys recommend for a replacement? I saw a lot of diamond cut H4 headlights on ebay for a couple of bucks. Any of you have those? What do you guys reccommend?
Also,... my steering feels a bit heavy when not in motion and when moving slowly. First,... I have a momo steering wheel and 225 tires up front. I'm pretty sure the car has power steering. im very sure the PO would of told me if the power steering was whack. I he told me about all this other stuff that he didnt have to tell me. I dont remember my last 944 S having heavy steering like this. But my last car had a stock steering wheel with 215's up front. How can I check if the power steering is not working properly? I was wondering what the stock steering wheel diameter is? Maybe its a lot larger than my momo? I dont know. Also,... I would like to revamp my guages. The black plastic looks worn and shiny silvery or something. Probably from the sun. one of the needles look chewed up a bit too. I was curious about the difference between the late NA and turbo gauges. I have an upgraded turbo and there for I do not need the stock boost gauge because from what I heard it doesnt read correctly. I was wondering if I could just get a NA cluster because it doesnt have the boost gauge. I think it has some some other guage in the boost gauges place. I think a MPG gauge? I couldnt see it clearly from the pics I saw. Would that guage work on my turbo whatever it is? I want t revamp a seperate gauge cluster and then install it when done. Also,... is there anyway to turn the odometer ahead? The odometer on my car is not right. it's 30000 miles behind where it's suppose to be. I think thats it for now. I'll have more questions when I get home to my car. In 800 miles away from my car for a whole week. This sucks I want my car.

Have you checked under the car to see if you have a power steering leak? Have you checked the fluid level in PS fluid resevoir? It should be filled using auto trans fluid. What air pressure do you have in the tires?
The instrument clustor for an N/A looking from the left: (Temp, Fuel), Speedo, (Tach/MPG) and (Oil/Battery). If you change out the gage clustor your mileage is going to be off anyway, so don't worry about it. Make sure to check the odometer gears are OK, if not change out the broken wheel. Check out: clarks-garage.com as there is a wealth of great info you need. Check out: texasblake.com as he has great step by step directions. Check out: 944online.com forum & FAQ There are other areas to look at also. Read thru the threads of other people's problems and check out the leads. Ask all the questions you need and there are plenty of guys that will help you. Cheers, Larry Last edited by Grandad#3; 08-02-2009 at 07:06 PM.. |

I bought a set of the inexpensive ebay lights (about $20 shipped) and they work great. Plug and play swap and the lighting is much better for the price. There are more expensive better options out there but for the price I'm totally content. I'll take a picture tomorrow as it is such a pain to move my 3 bike out then the car just to snap a pic.

From the seller I went with there were two main types: The diamond cut and the "projector" lights. I originally bought the diamond cut but they had a reflector just over the bulb that was secured by only one post so it rattled with any engine vibration or road bumps. I talked to the seller and he sent me a free set of these which are the "projector" kind. They are not projectors but have a magnifying type lens in front of the bulb. I doubt it does much for brightness but does not jiggle around like the single mount reflector of the other lights. These lights have a silly blue driving light at the bottom that can be swapped with any other 944 bulb. I plan to just put a plug.
I know it's dark but I couldn't find the keyes to the car that was parked behind it so this is the furthest I could get it out of the garage. ![]() Here you can see the magnifying lens and the blue driving light at the bottom. ![]() lights on. It's daytime so you really don't get the full effect but they're nice and bright with replaceable H4 bulbs. ![]() For about $20 shipped I think they're a great deal. |

Those look good. I think I'll try them out instead of the silver stars. Those H4 diamond cut's are going for about 30 shipped now. I would try the silver stars but im afraid the actual 7" lense might be beat up. Atleast this way I get nice new lenses.
Thanks.

I complained bitterly to myself when I bought a 944 Turbo- How can a 160 mph car have such lousy headlights?
The headlights always retract when the key is off- So I left the engine running, and cleaned the lenses with a bit of glass cleaner, and......The headlights worked great! The crud came off the lenses was almost like scales. Kept flaking off. I figure the lights hadn't been cleaned in years. Just something to check before spending money.... |

Hi, to jack up your car I put a cheap jap car sizzer jack up front underneath my sway bar front mount and just crank it up enough to insert my regular hydralic floor jack on the side where it is supposed to go.

I might try that. I was going to try driving one tire up on a 2x4 to see if that would give me enough clearance for a floor jack.
