Conversion questions
Hey all,
I am doing an S2 conversion into my '83 - all running gear components will be changed over (incl. engine, suspension, brakes, driveline). However i was wondering the compatability between the '83 gauges (speedo, tacho, oil, water, etc) with the S2 engine/harness. I do think i remember reading the early-44 speedo is different to to later models. Also, I have access to an 1989 944 2.7L gearbox that is fitted with LSD. Any ideas whether or not this will cope with the S2 engine and added power? Cheers for you help! |
I know that some of the early gauges were mechanical and all of the later gauges are electrical so there is an issue there.
I would think you would want an S2 or a Turbo tranny. just to be safe. |
A bit of an extension on this topic.
Will i need to change the rear suspension beam from the S2 for that already fitted to the '83 NA if i am fitting the S2 goodies (cast ally trailing arms, etc)? |
Alloy arm conversion requires updated spring plates, all else can stay.
Also, lower shock mounting bolt on the steel arm cars is 12mm, vs. 14mm for the alloy, so you will need late shocks or an adapter. And another also, if you want to stiffen up your handling a bit, might I suggest some of these DIRT CHEAP TORSION BARS while you have the suspension apart? Anything listed as 26 9/16 will fit. |
Cheers mate. Basically i am buying a complete S2 front and rear end so i will fundamentally drop it out of the S2 and straight up into the '83. So all updated bits and pieces will be converted over also.
So the biggest thing is whether or not the components will mate up to existing body connection points. And do i need the later model rear suspension beam? |
